MHS Families!
We would like to welcome back our students for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year! We wanted to let you know we will be implementing a new campus management program called Minga. Our goal at MHS with Minga is to improve student participation and engagement. We want our students to be in class learning, we want them to be on time to class, and we want them to know what is happening around the school, so they can become more engaged in the activities offered at MHS everyday.
Digital Student ID’s
Our students are required to have an ID with them at all times. This is a safety issue for our campus, as we need to ensure the students/people on this campus belong. However, this seems to be a daily challenge for some of our students. Therefore, we have decided to implement a new digital ID. Your student will now have a digital ID that can be accessed through their cell phone, or their school provided chromebook anytime. This digital ID has many other options as well. We have the ability to place a digital sticker on the ID with information important to them. For example, the lunch period they are assigned to, if they are a concurrent or career tech student and have permission to leave campus, and/or if they have purchased a ticket for an event, such as Prom.
Digital Hall Pass
Naturally, we have many students out of class during class time to either use the restroom, get a drink of water, go to the counseling center, etc. This means we have a large number of students out of class throughout the day. Unfortunately, we also have students who sometimes abuse the hall passes and will congregate in restrooms, in order to meet with friends, or do things that aren’t conducive to our learning environment. This creates problems for our students who are just trying to take care of business and get back to class, as the restrooms are too crowded, or things are happening that shouldn’t be happening. This new system will provide us with the data we need to understand which students are in the hallways, or other places other than their classrooms. We will use this data to address issues with students out of class when they shouldn’t be. We also have the ability to advise you of how much time your student may be out of classes throughout the day. Additionally, in the event of an emergency, we have the ability to locate students who are not in class at that time.
MHS Community Engagement
Students can easily keep up to date with their school community, with Minga’s go-to hub for all campus activity outside the classroom. Staying in the loop is effortless, with quick access to events, news, announcements, and other updates at a glance. They will see a news feed of events happening on campus, or announcements from MHS. They may also be members of a group, club, team, or organization. They will receive information from any group they are a part of through Minga, and it will be easily accessible from their phones or chromebooks.
MHS Tardy Management
Beginning January 16, we will implement another Minga module, tardy management. I will send out more information about this portion by the end of the week, next week.
We have trained our teachers on this new platform and will begin training our students on Monday, January 8 and completed by Friday, January 12.
Thank you for your continued support as we work to provide a safe and productive learning environment for our students.
Have a fantastic day!

Dear MHS Families,
There is concern about Minga tracking students. Minga does NOT track students. It does not have that capability. When a student requests a hall pass, they may use their Chromebooks or their personal device. When this hall pass is created, we know where the student is supposed to be, based on the place they requested to go. We cannot track them, we only know they are out of class and have created a hall pass to go to a certain place. We also know when they have returned to class, as they end the pass on their device. If a student requests a hall pass for a certain place, and does not go to where they have requested, the only we are going to know they are not where they are supposed to be is if we see them in the hall and ask if they have a pass. We can then look on our computer to see if they are where they are supposed to be. We also know if they are excessively late returning to class, they may not have been where they said they were going.
This system is to help us manage this extremely large campus. This new system is all about providing us data so that we can make better informed decisions. For example, if we have a student that is continually out of class, we can look at how many hall passes they have requested and have a conversation with them and their parent about the importance of being in class. If we have reports that there are too many students hanging out in one of the bathrooms, we can use the data to address that situation.
I am attaching a Family Guide from Minga that might help answer some of the concerns you may have with security.
Please continue to reach out to us with any questions you may have. Our goal is truly to try and ensure our students are in class learning as much as possible, and are more engaged in the MHS Community.
Have a great day!
