Thanks to the Board of Education

The month of January marks the annual observance of School Board Recognition Month. I cannot let the month pass without acknowledging what our Board of Education members mean to this district, and to me as superintendent.

Some may believe that the individuals on the board go to a meeting once a month and that constitutes their volunteer service. Nothing could be further from the truth. They are provided with information about the district through updates and one-on-one meetings weekly. They study the issues. They bear responsibility for the facilities at 13 school sites (soon to be 15), 11,439 students and more than 1,200 employees.

I have a wonderful team of individuals who make the day-to-day operation of the district possible from certified to support staff. But I am grateful I have a board composed of five professionals who can provide an objective eye, evaluating each issue with the good of everyone in mind. They are not afraid to ask questions, to disagree or to make decisions. My job is easier because of the caliber of individuals who serve. I have been blessed with outstanding Board of Education members since I arrived in this district.  A few faces have changed during the past six years, but the quality of character on the board has never wavered.

Although their service is often taken for granted - I wonder how many people can name the Board of Education members - I would like to take this opportunity to publicly commend them. Thank you for making a commitment to this district, to help direct its steps and keep it on its path of continual improvement.
