Student Clubs and Organizations
The Mustang Board of Education believes that
certain extracurricular and social activities can enhance the
learning environment of our schools. The board of education
shall annually notify parents or guardians of students about
clubs and organizations sponsored by or under the direct control
and supervision of the school district. The annual notification
shall be placed in the student handbook and by posting
information on the school’s district website. The annual
notification shall include, but is not limited to, the following
information about each club or organization:
Name
Mission or purpose; and
Name of the faculty advisor, if known
Parents or guardians of students will notify the school
administration that they are withholding permission for their
child(ren) to join or participate in one or more clubs or
organizations. Parents or guardians will need to fill out and
sign the
“Withhold Permission” Form and return it to their
child’s school site. Parents or guardians shall be responsible
for preventing their child from participating in a club or
organization in which permission is withheld. Parents or
guardians are also responsible for retrieving their child(ren)
from attendance at a club or organization in which participation
is withheld. Nothing in this subsection shall prevent a club or
organization from meeting when a student who is not authorized
to be in the club or organization is present at such meeting.
If clubs or organizations are created or formed after the annual
notification is distributed, the school district shall send
additional notification to the parents or guardians containing
the above-listed information regarding the additional clubs or
organizations by way of a message added to the school’s district
website.

FFA - The
agricultural science program is built on the three core areas of
classroom /laboratory instruction, supervised agricultural
experience programs and FFA student organization
activities/opportunities. - Sponsors: Randy Harris and Danny

Students Assisting Students - It is
designed to develop an understanding of special education and
related services by students working and mentoring other
students either in a special education classroom or in a regular
classroom. SAS students work one on one with the students in
group settings and in regular classes. There are prerequisites
for being accepted into this class at least a 2.5 gpa and two
teacher recommendations. – Sponsor: Joy Miller
Academic Team - Competitive
organization under OSSAA and NAQT guidelines and format.
Multiple teams consisting of 4-6 players each. No maximum number
of students. Our purpose is to showcase academic excellence at
Mustang High School. – Sponsor: Matt Moore
French Club - An organization that
brings students together to participate in activities related to
the French language and culture. – Sponsor: Karen McChesney
JETS – Organization provides
programs and resources so students may "explore, assess, and
experience engineering first-hand". These include engineering
and academic competitions, guest speakers, and career
exploration through materials and field trips. JETS is a

Mustang High School Video Club
Following goals:
1. To Provide a sharing and positive environment to better
understand video production.
2. To learn the many facets of videography.
3. To create videos of school activities - promoting, producing,
and broadcast previous school events.
4. To introduce the many professional career opportunities in
the multimedia industries and encourage students to pursue
graduating from high school to pursue a professional career in
electronic media.
5. To some day broadcast on Mustang HS Cox cable channel school
news & events.

DECA - An Association of Marketing
Students.
An international association of high school students studying
marketing, management and entrepreneurship in business, finance,
hospitality and marketing sales and service. – Sponsor: Diane Cerny
National Honor Society of Secondary
Schools (NHS) - The purpose of this organization shall be to
create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to
render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character
in the students of secondary schools. Affiliation: NHS is a
program of the National Association of Secondary School
Principals (NASSP), 1904 Association Drive, Reston, VA
20191-1537, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit association. –

ECO Club - This organization was
formed in 2006 by some AP Environmental Science students with
the purpose of promoting environmental awareness among the
students at the high school campus through recycling and campus
beautification projects. The club, at times, has participated at
the city recycle facility on S.W. 59th St. – Sponsor: Gary

Drama Club
Purposes:
1. To unify Mustang Public School’s drama students (MHS,
Mid-High, & Middle Schools);
2. To create revenue through fundraisers and donations for costs
of productions, apparel (MHS drama club t-shirts, jackets,
etc.), tournament and competition fees, publicity, drama awards
banquet, workshops and guest speakers, and social events;
3. To generate local businesses’ sponsorship and donations
toward our program;
4. To publicize and promote within the school system as well as
the community MHS Drama endeavors & productions;
5. To motivate and involve parents of MHS Players in MHS Drama
Booster Club;
6. To establish and maintain a mentorship program with Mid-High
and Middle school drama students; and
7. To increase productivity of MHS Drama Department.

Debate Club
Students who are involved in debate demonstrate superior
critical thinking skills, higher levels of self-confidence and
independence. It offers students affirmation and support during

Student Council
We the students of Mustang High School, in order to improve the
school and to support the following goals:
1. A better school spirit and morale
2. A better understanding between students and faculty and among
students themselves
3. A greater appreciation of good sportsmanship with other
schools
4. A wider variety of school activities
5. A greater feeling of responsibility for our school, all of
which help create a more unified school organization.

JROTC - JROTC offers several
extracurricular opportunities. Participation in extracurricular
activities is optional. The mission of the JROTC program is to
“Motivate Young People to Become Better Citizens”. –

Students Against Destructive Decisions
– SADD – Students helping students make positive decisions
about challenges in their everyday life. Members sign a contract
for life declaring they will stay drug and alcohol free and make

Technology Student Association -
Leadership and opportunities in technology, innovation, design
and engineering. Members apply STEM concepts through
co-curricular programs. – Sponsor: Chad Harper
Peer Educators - A group of
volunteer students selected by their peers and teachers to
promote abstinence and help provide HIV/AIDS training each year.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of
America – FCCLA is a Careertech student organization that
functions as an integral part of the Family and Consumer
Sciences education curriculum. It is the only in-school student
organization with the family as its central focus. Its mission
is to promote personal growth and leadership development through
Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple
roles of family member, wage earner and community leader,
members develop skills for life through character development,
creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communications,
practical knowledge and career preparation. MHS chapter

Hispanic Society (National Honor for Spanish) -
Rigoberta Menchu-Recognizes high levels of student achievement in Spanish &
